Mapping A Network Drive

Mapping a Network Drive

Mapping a network drive assigns a drive letter to a particular shared folder on your local network. This makes the location of the files easier for the tax program to remember and its contents more convenient to access. All data on mapped drives will have certain permission levels set and security authorizations will have to be set to access it.

Windows 7 Operating System

  • Open the Computer Management Screen by clicking on Start, then selecting Computer or open any Windows Explorer view on the computer.
  • Select the Map Network Drive button on the toolbar (This opens the Map Network Drive dialog box)
  • Using the Drive drop-down list, you can now create a network drive for a shared resource. Select a free drive letter to create a network drive that can be accessed in Windows Explorer. (We recommend using N: if it is available.)
  • In the Folder text box, type the network share path name (Ex: \\transmittingcomputername\shared-folder). If you are unsure of the share location, select Browse to search for available shares. After selecting the appropriate share, select OK to close the Browse For Folder dialog box.
(Optional) If you want the network drive to be automatically connected in subsequent sessions, select the Reconnect At Logon check box. Otherwise, clear this check box to later establish a connection whenever you double-click the network drive.
  • If you are not an administrator, you will need to select the Connect Using Different Credentials check box. Then ask an administrator on your network to enter their username and password in the Windows Security dialog box that appears. Select OK to close the Connect As dialog box.
Select Finish to map the network drive.
