How can I track referrals?
Referrals are an important part of growing your business, and recognizing those who have referred a new client to your office is easy using the Referrals features within Keystone Tax Solutions Pro.
Where to Enter a Referral
To enter a referral name in a new client’s tax return, from the Main Menu of the tax return (Form 1040) select Exit to be taken to the Receipt Menu. Select Referral. If this is the first referral you are entering, select New Referral and enter the name of the individual who referred the new client. If you have previously entered other referrals, select a name from the list, or select New Referral.
Tracking Referrals – The Referrals Report
Referrals can be tracked by running the Referrals Report. To run the report, from the main menu of the program select 9. Reports > 4. Referrals. The referral report contains the following information: Taxpayer SSN, Taxpayer Name, Date Completed, Funded Status, and the name of individual who gave the referral.
The referrals report can be printed or exported to Excel. It is recommended you export the report to Excel so that the data can be filtered to suit your needs. To export the report as a CSV file to Excel, select Export the Referrals Report. A “Save As” box will open on the screen prepopulated with the name of the CSV file. Navigate to the location on your computer where you want to save the file, and change the file name if desired. Select Save.
Open the saved CSV file in Excel and resize the columns so that the data displays properly. Set filters to help sort the data by clicking on the Sort & Filter option at the top of the spreadsheet and selecting Filter. Select the down arrow on the column you would like to sort by and select the option that will best display the information: Sort A-Z will arrange the data in the column alphabetically. Deselecting the Select All box will allow you to select only the names of the referrals you want to be displayed on the report.
