Preparer Code – Preparer and Firm Information

The IRS requires that all paid preparer information is included on every return prepared for compensation.  To ensure that the correct firm and preparer information prints on the bottom of the second page of Form 1040, you must enter a Preparer Code.  If you need to change the preparer code on the return, select Preparer Code and then enter the correct preparer number.
If you have entered your Preparer Code in the Personal Information Menu and either the Paid Preparer Information or the Firm Information are missing at the bottom of page two of the Form 1040, or the information is not up to date click, follow the steps below:
From the Main Menu of the Tax Return (Form 1040) select:
  • Personal Information
  • Preparer Code – Change to ‘0’
  • Exit the Personal Information Menu
  • Re-select the Personal Information Menu
  • Re-enter the desired Preparer Code Number
  • When you View or Print the form, the correct information should be displayed.

To set up preparers in the Configuration Menu of the tax program, from the Main Menu of Keystone Tax Solutions select:
  • Configuration
  • Firm / ERO / Preparer Setup
  • Preparer(s) Menu – You can enter a new preparer, or edit a current preparer from this menu.
