Keystone Tax Solutions Pro will automatically download the updates that you have indicated you want automatically downloaded when the program is started. Updates must be downloaded and installed on the file server prior to updating workstations.
Updating the File Server
To manually download and install federal and state programs on the file server, from the Main Menu of Keystone Tax Solutions Pro select:
- Updates
- Download/Install Updates
- Updates that are highlighted in red have not been downloaded. Select each federal and/or state update that you wish to install, or select the Check All Needed check box to download all states in red.
- Select the Download button
Irrespective of which tab you use to select the state(s) you want, both Business and Individual updates will be installed. Since Texas only appears in the Business tab, to install the Texas business forms you will need to select it from the Business tab if you don’t use Check All Needed.
We recommend downloading all states so that you will be ready for any client’s return and to avoid having to disrupt the flow of work by having to download a missing state. To download all the states needed, select the Check All Needed check box before selecting the Download button.
Updating a Workstation
Once updates are completed on the File Server you can update the workstations. From the Main Menu of Keystone Tax Solutions Pro select:
- Updates
This will begin the automatic update process for the workstation. All updates that have been installed on the file server will be copied to the workstation.
Updating Non-networked, Stand-alone Workstations
If you have multiple stand-alone computers that do not have access to the internet, you can copy the updates to a removable drive from file server and transfer them to the workstation computer(s). After you have downloaded and installed the updates on file server, from the Main Menu of Keystone Tax Solutions Pro select:
- Updates
- Backup Updates
- Select the Drive Letter assigned to the removable drive
- Note the File Name. Change it if you wish.
- Select Open.
The installed updates will be copied to the backup file. Once the update(s) are copied, eject the removable drive and insert it into the workstation. On the workstation, from the Main Menu of Keystone Tax Solutions Pro select:
- Updates
- Recall Updates
- Select the Drive Letter assigned to the removable drive, navigate to the backup file, and double-click it.
Once the updates have been recalled from the removable drive, they need to be installed. From the Main Menu of Keystone Tax Solutions Pro select:
- Updates
- Download/Install Updates
- States that need updating will be highlighted in red. Select the updates you would like to install.
- Select the Download button
