How to Enter a Foreign Address

A foreign address is an address that is not a US state, possession, or military address (APO, DPO, FPO). A foreign address does not have a US ZIP Code.


Entering a foreign address in a new tax return

To enter a foreign address when creating a new tax return, from the Main Menu of Keystone Tax Solutions Pro select:

  • Tax Returns
  • Enter the client’s SSN, confirm that you wish to create a new return (whether or not pulling forward prior year information), and confirm the filing status.
  • In the Personal Information Entry window, click the Check for Foreign Address check box. Note the address fields will change to accommodate the needs of a foreign address.

Entering a foreign address in an existing tax return

To enter a foreign address in an existing return from the Main Menu of the Tax Return (Form 1040) select:

  • Personal Information
  • Name & Address
  • Address
  • Click the Check for Foreign Address check box

Entering a foreign address on Form W-2

To enter a foreign address on Form W-2, from the Main Menu of the tax return (Form 1040) select:

  • Income Menu
  • Wages, Salaries, Tips (W-2)
  • Select New or double-click the entry you wish to Edit.
    • If the employer has a foreign address, check the Foreign check box located to the right of Box c. – Employer Name/Address.
    • If the employee has a foreign address, check the Foreign check box located to the right of Box f. – Employee Address.

Entering a foreign address on Form 1099-R

To enter a foreign address on Form 1099-R from the Main Menu of the tax return (Form 1040) select:

  • Income Menu
  • IRA/Pension Distributions (1099R,RRB-1099-R)
  • Select New or double-click the entry you wish to Edit.
    • If the employer has a foreign address, check the Foreign check box located to the right of Box b. – Payer’s Name/Address.
    • If the employee has a foreign address, check the Foreign check box located to the right of Box c. – Recipient Address.

To enter a foreign address on Form 1099-MISC from the Main Menu of the Tax Return (Form 1040) select:

  • Income Menu
  • Form 1099-MISC
  • Select New or double-click the entry you wish to Edit.
    • If the employer has a foreign address, check the Foreign check box located to the right of Box b. – Payer’s Name/Address.
    • If the employee has a foreign address, check the Foreign check box located to the right of Box c. – Recipient Address.
