At some point during the tax season, you may wish to send a copy of a tax return to Keystone Tax Solutions Pro support staff for review. For example, you may have a question about the accuracy of a calculation of a particular line on a form, or you may have a question about how to correctly input information into the software. Additionally, if you are on the phone with support staff, they may ask you to send a copy of a return as a “corrupt return” so they can assist you with it.
In this context, corrupt does not imply the return has been corrupted on your computer. Rather, for the sake of security, certain important bits of data, such as the Social Security Number and the last name, are corrupted on our end. Doing this provides a layer of identity protection as well as rendering the return incapable of being filed by us, but our support staff can still load the return into Keystone Tax Solutions Pro for diagnostic purposes.
To send a corrupt return for an individual, from the Main Menu of the Tax Return (Form 1040) select:
- Miscellaneous Forms
- Send Client’s Corrupt Return
- Add a short note describing the problem, the form needing review, etc.
- Select OK
- You should see a message indicating the return was sent successfully.
To send a corrupt business return (Form 1120, 1120S, 1065, 1040, 990, 990-EZ, 990-T), from the Main Menu of the return select:
- Miscellaneous or Miscellaneous Statements
- Send Corrupt Business Return
A corrupt individual return can also be sent from the main menu of Keystone Tax Solutions Pro by selecting:
- Utilities
- Send Corrupt Return to Keystone Tax Solutions Pro
- Enter the SSN and a short note describing the problem
- Select OK
NOTE: If you send a corrupt return outside of a call with support staff, be sure to let Keystone Tax Solutions Pro support know by phone or e-mail that you sent the return. You will need to provide us your EFIN and the last four digits of the return’s SSN or EIN so that the return may be retrieved for review.
