Troubleshooting Printing Problems

Print errors can be generated for a number of reasons, most often by not having the correct printer preferences selected in the program. Use the steps below to first identify and select the correct printer to print through the tax program. Then, check the additional print preferences listed below to configure your program for optimal print performance.

From the Main Menu of Keystone Tax Solutions select:
• Configuration
• Printer/Copies Setup
• Printer Setup – The program will pull forward the prior year print configuration.
• Choose the correct printer for print options (Default Tax Printer, Default Receipt Printer and Default Check Printer)
• Select Edit Printer Preferences

1. Printer File Format #1 – Adobe One Instance
2. Printer File Format #2 – Adobe New Instance
3. Printer File Format #3 – PDF Printer

• If the problem still persists you may need to complete the following steps.

• Choose Printer File Format #1 – Adobe Reader XI or Adobe Reader DC will need to be installed.

Get Adobe Reader. *Ensure that you carefully read the instructions for installation.*

• If Adobe has been installed you will be prompted to select Adobe from the options being displayed.
• Select Reader 11.0 (or the most current version installed)
• Select Reader again
• Select AcroRd32.exe

• Try printing again

Adobe XI

a. Open Adobe 11 in Windows and verify it has been configured.
b. Select Edit/Preferences and then click Security (Enhanced) and uncheck Enable Enhanced Security and uncheck Enable Protected Mode at startup.
c. Click OK to save the changes.

If re-selecting your printer does not correct the problem there may be a document stuck in the print queue. Try the following:
• Turn off the printer and the computer
• Wait approximately 30 seconds
• Re-start the computer and turn the printer back on
If your printer is still not printing after completing the above steps, try printing from another program, (i.e. Microsoft Word or Note Pad). If you still cannot print, contact your Printer Manufacturer or a local Computer Technician. In the event you can print from other programs and Keystone Tax Solutions appears to be the problem, please contact Technical Support.
