Tax Program Service Has Stopped

Keystone Tax Solutions Pro uses a Windows Service that runs in the background to move information between the file server and workstation computers. The service must be running on all computers in order for the program to function properly. If the service stops or becomes disabled, you will receive a message stating Warning Tax Program Service State Is Stopped. Please Make Sure the Service is Running or you will get Errors in the Program. To correct the issue you must restart the tax program service. To restart the service, click Ok on the warning message and close the program.

Open your computer’s Task Manager. There are several ways this can be done:

  • Press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del] to bring up the Windows Security screen. Select Task Manager to open the window
  • Right-click on the taskbar on your screen and select Task Manager
  • Use the Windows search tool and type Task Manager in the search box. Select Task Manager

If the Task Manager opens a small window with a list of open programs with no details:

  • Click More Details
  • Click the Services Tab
  • Click Open Services
  • Locate Tax Program Service 20xx (xx being the program year in which you are receiving the warning message)

If the Status column does not indicate that the service is running or if the Startup Type column indicates that the service has been disabled, you’ll need to manually start/Re-Enable the service:

Double-click on the service. Change the Startup type to Automatic. If the Startup type is already set to Automatic, restart the service by clicking on the Start button:
